Abstract:As a distinguished French contemporary writer, Michel Tournier gets inspirations from well known historical stories, folklores, legends, religious and mythological tales. In his works, there is a unity between the real and the imaginary, the phantasm and the metaphysics, the symbolic and the poetic, etc. This paper aims to explore Tourniers literary theory resources from the perspectives of philosophy, literature, mythology, ethnology and religion which are claimed to have great influence on the literary creation of Tournier, so that the readers will have a better and deeper understanding of the great philosophical writer.
