Abstract:Jane Smileys novel A Thousand Acres interweaves different traumatic experiences in various historical times from a womans angle, and presents a panoramic picture of American women in the 20th century. Approaching the novel from the perspective of trauma theory, this paper analyzes Ginnys hard journey of survival and redemption escaping from trauma, confronting and getting rid of traumatic psychology. It reveals that Jane Smiley uncovers the cause of the females trauma, while expressing her deep concern about Ginnys psychological trauma, reflecting her thinking on womens predicament of survival and worry about ecological crisis.
