Haihui is a popular phrase of Chaling County’s dialect. Haihui not only has the same meaning and usage as Haihui in Mandarin, but also conveys a negative function by denying the other’s opinion or behavior. The negative function of Haihui occurs due to the frequent usages in rhetorical questions. It is the marks of rhetorical question, from which the negative function has been developed.
