Abstract:With the opening up of the social communicative environment and changes in the concept of life, the appellation has been greatly changed, especially the spouse appellation. In the new century, Laogong and Laopo are popular in audio-visual media as a pair of main addressing term. This paper mainly uses the sociolinguistic research methods to make a more detailed investigation on and analysis of its usage in the real-life situations. Results show that the spouses title presents a different distribution as the difference of the speaker’s role, social features and speaking occasions, its popularity in the audio-visual media does not meet the actual communicative language sense of all social groups, so they are unlikely to replace the original patterns of spouse appellation.
