Abstract:The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid is concerned with the social impact of “September 11” event on people from Eastern cultural backgrounds as a cut-in point, exploring the influence of the event on Oriental intellectual groups in post-colonial era. This paper, based on the post-colonial theory, analyzed the Orientalism criticism and cultural identity themes reflected in the novel. It points out that in the post “September 11” era, the “War on Terror” has fallen into a worse situation. The approach to it lies in promoting cultural interaction through cultural exchange on the ground of removing the cultural hegemony.
