Abstract:In comparison with the developed countries, the social status of Nepali woman is historically low. Domestically speaking, Nepali women are relatively subordinate to men. History of Nepali feminism can be divided into four stages, i.e. the stage of germination, that of beginning to grow, that of maturity, and that of sustainable development, in which the women members of the mainstream political parties, the NGOs, the Maoists, and the Nepali academics are involved. During the development process of Nepali feminism, although there are both advantages and disadvantages to international aids, traditional culture still remains an obstacle to be overcome. After the long-term development, the Nepali womens role has been evidently improved. Womens awareness on their gender and rights protection has been greatly enhanced. In addition, in view of the future development of Nepali feminism, both the modernization course of Nepal and those who have made particular contributions to the country, have played a positive role in striving for womens rights and improving their social status.
