Abstract:In recent years,China’s Outward Direct Investment(ODI),closely related to the level of China’s economic development, grows rapidly and presents the characteristics of stages. This paper makes an empirical analysis of the status and stage of China’s ODI.First, using Chinese aggregate ODI data from 1982 to 2009 and other related data, including FDI,export and GDP,this paper applies statistical analysis, comparative analysis, and OND index to study the status of China’s ODI.The results show that China’s ODI is still at a relatively low level.Secondly,by applying the aggregate data from 1982 to 2009,and provincial panel data from 2003 to 2009,this paper carries out the empirical test, according to IDP theory, and finds out at what development stage China’s ODI is.It turns out that China’s development of the net direct investment has been in its third phase, and Eastern part of China has crossed over the third stage and come to the early fourth stage. The paper comes to conclusion that China’s ODI will be in the rapid development trend in a long period of next coming years.
