Abstract:Based on Chinese Journal Full-text databases and full-text databases of Chinese doctoral and graduates’ theses, this paper analyzes China’s research progress of ecological vulnerability from the perspective of quantity, region, content and method. It retrieves and categorizes the papers published from 1980 to 2010 by taking ecological vulnerability and GIS as index words. Results show among the 259 journal papers, the core journal papers accounts for 44%.Since 1993,related journal papers and doctoral as well as graduates’ theses have been increasing.China’s research on ecological vulnerability has become a hot topic ever since 2000.From the regional analysis,in the early period more studies focused on ecologically vulnerable areas of Southwest’s limestone mountains,North China plateau, north semiarid & arid areas, and northwest semiarid areas, while in the later period more researches were seen in the ecologically vulnerable area of Southern hills. From the content analysis, there were more empirical studies than theoretical studies. From the method analysis, studies in the early period took the county as the data unit, and after 2000,the Grid GIS came into being. The number has gradually increased since 2005.Currently,studies that discuss ecological vulnerability from the perspective of landscape is seldom seen, and there are no 3D visualization on vulnerability.
