Abstract:On the surface level, translation is a process where the conversion of one language to another takes place, yet the capacity of language to represent is not intrinsic, but is derived from the intentionality of the mind. The language a linguistic form belongs to and the meaning it involves are the outcome of a subject’s intentionality directed at an object.Meanwhile,as one of the key approaches to interlingual and intercultural communication, translating is a social activity, concerning at least three subjects, including the writer, the translator and the readers of translated works. The intentionality of these subjects influences each other and comprises a network of interaction,so that the translating activity turns out to be a process in which the intentionality of the subjects strikes a balance and gets realized.
