The operational efficiency of hotel industry is measured based on super efficiency DEA model in 31 provinces and autonomous regions during the years of 2006-2011. Results show that the overall hotel industry’s operational efficiency shows an improvement trend, but not ideal. There is a clear gradient difference, and the efficiency sequence from high to low is seen from eastern to central provinces, and from western to northeastern provinces. Finally, this paper proposes measures to improve the operating efficiency of the hotel industry from the macro and the micro levels. The results will provide references for the relevant government departments and tourism enterprises to optimize the development plan of the hotel industry and improve hotel management decision making.
