Abstract:Being one of the representative works of Amy Tan, a famous Chinese American writer, The Bonesetters Daughter tells a story of the Chinese mother who reconstructs the past through recollection and chooses the memory to memorize though the past. From the perspective of the mothers recollection, this paper analyzes her process of finding family name and knowing herself, and reveals the significance of memory in individual and collective communication, and the value of memory in the connection of past, present and future. Rethinking the past from the perspective of memory will help the Chinese ones locate themselves in recollecting family history and identify themselves in inheriting cultural tradition.
