Abstract:By use of housing price to consolidated income ratio to measure the residents’ housing affordability and examining differences across regions in China, this paper draws the conclusions as follows: (1) Overall, the residents’ housing affordability is not weak; in most provinces, housing price to consolidated income ratio are in a reasonable range; (2) The residents’ housing affordability is significantly and regionally different. Housing affordability in the Eastern region is weaker than that of the Central and the Western regions, and varies widely among the provinces;(3) Housing affordability of residents is so weak among such five Eastern Provinces (Municipalities) as Beijing, Hainan, Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Fujian; the prices have far exceeded the purchasing power of the residents.
