Abstract:The saying of “only for a poet to translate a poem” in the circle of translation studies presupposes that the translator’s multi-identity has positive influences on translation. By an analysis of the translation essence, this paper reveals the necessity of translators with multi-identity in translation, and then it takes Yuen-ren Chao’s translation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland for example to elaborate on the positive influences of translator’s multi-identity on the correctness of understanding the original text and expressing in the target language, the appropriateness of conveying the original style and the possibility of reconstructing canon in the target language.
