F.R. Leavis’s thoughts on organic community are mainly about the rural community in the 17th century. The “17th” and the “rural” are two metaphors referring to the following two aspects respectively: the continuity of traditional culture from the dimension of time, and the harmony of environment from the dimension of space. His thoughts on organic community consist of two aspects, i.e. the organic community requires the continuity of the traditional culture, and it demands the harmony of the environment. In F.R. Leavis’s eyes, the way to organic community should be the cultivation of the critical awareness.
