In his book The Philosophy in the Twentieth Century, A. J. Ayer criticized H. Putnams idea of essence, necessity and possible worlds. Putnam made a refutation on Ayers criticism, comparing the metaphysical possibility with the physical possibility. Based on his defenses in metaphysical possibility, he demonstrated in sortal identity and substance-identity, and studied the problem of equivalent across the possible world.
