Abstract:In ancient China, university refers to the highest educational institution, which also calls Da Xue. Besides that, there are some other names for university in feudal China, such as Zhaixiaxuegong, Taixue, Guozijian, Shuyuan, etc. Cultural accumulations in ancient China are from ethical civilization, self-cultivation and virtue cultivation to develop goodness, value Confucianism, and use the education principle whose nature is reason. Then it appears Neo-Confucianism, ethics as the reason and assistance to common people. Traditional university culture lays emphasis on social orientation, humanity-ethic, and principle, and so on. As time goes on, those spiritual characteristics present different features, which contribute to the formation of Chinese university spirit.
